Otters are my favorite. Here is one I created in clay and had cast into Bronze.
The bronze casting process used here is "Lost Wax". The original actual size model was sculpted in Plastacene clay. A mold was made of it and filled with casting wax. Removed from this master mold, the wax is refined by hand. A mold of the wax is then made in ceramic material. The wax is then melted out of the ceramic mold at 1500-2000 degrees F leaving a ceramic mold to accept the liquid Bronze. "Chasing" the casting is then done by hand to completely refine and detail the surface. The final application is oxidation "patina" application. A little wax and the sculpture is ready to enjoy....please do.
