Period pieces are an interest of mine. This lady is out on the town in 1900's Winter attire.
This 1900's lady in Winter was carved from a block of Basswood. The finish was a combination of very thin coats of polyurathane varnish and wax. It required many hours of fine sanding between coats to create the soft look to the surface.
Though it was my original intent to carve the hat and feather from the same block as one piece it became too delicate to manage so I carved it to a point where I cut the hat from the head, finished carving it and glued it back in place near the end of the project. The base is a seperate piece of Basswood also attached.
